The Site Title and Site Description are included (optionally) in the meta tags on every page of the site. (Meta tags are not visible on the pages, but are included in the page header code and are used by browsers and search engines).
Meta page titles and descriptions are used and displayed in the following places:
- By search engines in their search results listings.
- In browser bookmarks and history.
Every page of the site gets a unique page title and description based on information specific to that page - such as the specific gallery, photo, product titles and descriptions. The Site Title and Site Description are (optionally) automatically appended to those unique items as well, on every page.
Because the Site Title and Site Description are (optionally) included in EVERY page throughout the site, they need to be only the most general words that will be relevant to every page of the site.
A suitable Site Title would be something like "[Your Name] Photography", for example.
A suitable Site Description would be something like "[Your Name] Photography" or "Photography by [Your Name]", for example.
Here is an example of how this all works on a particular page of the site, say a photo page with a photo titled "Moonrise Over Denver". The page title for that page would be "Moonrise Over Denver | Your Name Photography". The first part of the title was generated by the photo page, and second part was appended since it is the Site Title which gets appended on every page. The same principle works with the page descriptions.
