v5.9: PayPal Account Configuration Updates

May 2023

With WideRange Galleries v.5.9, it's no longer necessary to configure your PayPal account with Auto Return or Instant Payment Notification return addresses - the website cart now handles all this automatically for you.

Additionally, it's actually preferable now to remove any previously configured Auto Return or Instant Payment Notification return addresses that I may have instructed you to enter before. The reason is because if you receive PayPal payments from other sources (besides the website) you don't necessarily want those customers and transactions to be routed to those particular return pages on your site.

The following directions describe a PayPal Business account; personal accounts may have differing menus/pages.

To remove previous Auto Return configuration:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Go to Account Settings (from menu at upper right corner of the page).
  3. Go to Website Payments (from the left side menu).
  4. For Website preferences click Update.
  5. In the Auto Return section, you can leave it on, but for the Return URL just enter your base homepage domain name (like https://www.yoursite.com ) without any additional specific "linklok" address.
  6. Click Save.

To remove previous Instant Payment Notification (IPN) configuration:

  1. Go back to the Website Payments page (first three steps above).
  2. For Instant payment notifications click Update.
  3. Click Edit Settings.
  4. For the Notification URL just enter your base homepage domain name (like https://www.yoursite.com ) without any additional specific "linklok" address.
  5. Click Save.
